Community and People - About the Mississauga Apart of the Anishinaabek

The Mississauga Nation is a part of the Three Fires Confederacy, which is a confederacy of 38 Indigneous Nations and 34 Clans/Dodemag. The Three Fires Represent The Ojibway (Mississaugas, Chippewas, Bungi/Soto/Saulteaux, Ojibwe and Algonquin), Odawa (Ottawa), Bodewatomi (Potawatomi) Nations called the Anishinaabek. The Three Fires communities in Canada extend from The east coast of Canada/USA to Alberta/British Columbia/Montana in the West, as far north as the Territories in Canada and as far south as Kansas, Oklahoma and in our travels, forming small communities in Mexico.

The Mississaugas are the Ojibway people who eventually became known as a distinct Nation through growth, time and the course of history of Turtle Island. The Name Mississauga originates within a term from the Anishinaabek language meaning the "geographical regions where the lakes meet the rivers - or river mouth(s)" and this is where we would reside and identified with others as "people who reside at many river mouths" (roughly translated.Historically approximately thriteen rivers and many creeks that connect to the lakes within ontario as waterways for the Anishinaabek way of life. The Mississaugas of New Credit seven main Rivers are prominant.

There are several communities of the Mississauga Nation and communities that in the past joined with large numbers of Mississauga peoples and or identified as both Ojibway or Mississauga, being Anishinaabek. There are seven Mississauga Groups and six Mississauga landbased communities: The Mississaugas of Alderville First Nation, Mississaugas of Scugog Island, Burleigh Falls Anishinaabek, The Ojibways/Mississaugas of Curve Lake First Nation, Mississaugas of Hiawatha First Nation, Mississaugas/Ojibways - Blind River Mississaugi First Nation, The Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nation. There are also many communities consisting of Mississaugas residing with other Ojibway and Three Fires Communities Such as Chippewa of the Thames FN, Wikwemikong FN, Whitefish FN, Saugeen FN, Rama FN, Wausauksing FN, Saginaw Chippewa MI, etc. (In Canada and USA like New York and Michigan State particularly)
Some Mississauga Nation members residing as well as with the Six Nations/Hadenosaunee, The Delaware, Plains Ojibway/Dakota, Oji-Cree and The Cree Nations' communities.   There are historically Mississauga Nation members who travelled and resided in Europe as well throughout history.
